USN 100% Premium Whey
I’m a sucker for a great whey blend and I’ve had some good experience with USN supplements before. So when I spotted their 100% Premium Whey on sale, I picked up a tub and tried it out.
Let’s see how 100% Premium Whey fares in an incredibly competitive market.
Active Ingredients
MyoMatrix Whey protein isolate and concentrate blend, Maltodextrin, MCT oil, ZymaTechTM Lactazyme powder (Lactase).
Effectiveness
Like a lot of USN’s products, 100% Premium Whey uses a proprietary protein mix containing both whey protein isolate and whey concentrate.
While I’d like to know exactly how much of each ingredient is included in the supplement, it’s not a deal breaker for me so long as it nails everything else.
The mix of isolate and concentrate is great with an immediate boost from the fast digesting concentrate and a long-lasting full feeling from the slow burning isolate. This works really well as you get an immediate post-workout boost and it continues for a few hours.
When testing 100% Premium Whey, I started with a one-scoop serving, which felt great. No bloated feeling, no sluggishness and no digestive havoc.
The supplement’s macros are good, too. Each 34-g scoop contains 24g of protein, 2.8g of carbs and 3g of fat, which makes it pretty easy to hit your goals without buckets of empty-calories.
With seven flavours, it’s pretty easy to keep it fresh and the three I’ve sampled — Cookies & Cream, Strawberry and Vanilla — were really solid. The powder also mixes well in both water and milk. However, with a premium whey, I’d expect nothing less.
Value
Okay, this is where the wheels sort of half come off the USN hype train. When it’s not on sale, 100% Premium Whey runs to £42.99 for a 908g tub, which is £47.35 per kilo!
That’s definitely premium!
At that price, it’s so difficult to justify buying it. Sure, it’s a good whey protein supplement but that’s all it is. It’s good, maybe even great, but it’s not going to revolutionise your nutrition.
On sale, you can some times pick it up for as little as £23.99 for the 908g tub and £39.99 for the 2.28kg tub, which works out at £26.42 per kilo and £17.54 per kilo.
That’s more like it!
Verdict
USN 100% Premium Whey is a great supplement. It mixes well, it digests well, it’s macro-friendly and tastes pretty good, too.
If you’re in the market for a new whey protein blend and can find it on sale, USN’s 100% Premium Whey should definitely be on your radar.
However, if it’s full price, I just don’t see how you could justify it!
