It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of The Protein Works. TPW Whey Protein 360 is a fantastic protein supplement, Pre-Works is awesome pre-workout and Genesis is a nice budget alternative.

So, when I had the chance to test out Nitro Works, a pre-workout specially formulated for strength, speed and power athletes, I jumped at the opportunity.

Unlike the ingredient-heavy Pre-Works, Nitro slims down its ingredient list to just 12 active ingredients and promises to deliver a super targeted pre-game pump.

I tested Nitro Works before a workout and a game of rugby to test its effectiveness. Here’s what happened.

          Active Ingredients

D-Aspartic Acid, Beta Alanine, L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, Citrulline Malate, Guarana, Yerba Mate Malate, Taurine, Agmatine Sulphate.

Nitro Works mixes pretty well, which is a nice surprise after the rather clumpy Pre-Works. If I’m being super critical, Nitro Works can be a little powdery and it does tend to foam up a bit but it’s nothing annoying enough to actually put me off.

Flavour-wise, it’s slim pickings with just Orange Burst and Tropical Punch on offer. Both taste pretty good, a little like an energy drink with an added extra kick.

Nitro Works continues the tradition of awesome pumps from TPW pre-workouts. The three forms of natural caffeine build a decent buzz and the 2g of beta alanine adds a subdued but noticeable tingle.

It’s not as in-your-face as the buzz you get from Pre-Works but that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you’re actually playing sport and need a clear head.

Both on the pitch and in the gym, I really noticed an increase in performance and I’ve heard great things from others, too.

A 500g bag of Nitro Works costs £23.99, which works out at around £0.50 per 10g serving.

It’s decidedly mid-range but will give premium pre-workouts a run for their money.

Nitro Works is an excellent pre-workout supplement that gives you a big boost in performance without the jitters of ingredient-heavy supplements.

If you’re looking for a slightly more subdued pre-workout, Nitro Works is a damn fine choice and well worth a test.
